Exra! Extra! Read all about it!

Hello Book Busters!

Since Book Busters first meeting last February, each of my club members have picked out a new middle reader's novel that they each want to read as the groups monthly reading selection! After a much anticipated lottery selection, we hammered out which Book Busters novel would be read & when we would read each one. So far we have read, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull, Pendragon Book 1: The Merchant Of Death by D.J. MacHale, Tunnels by Goderick Gordon, The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor and Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George! Want to see what we'll be reading in the next few months? Check them out!

In September, not only will we be READING Whales On Stilts by M.T. Anderson but we'll also be MEETING the author as well! I'm proud to announce that this will be Book Busters first ever guest author appearance!
His latest book, within the bestselling Jasper Dash series will be out next month, so in celebration of it's release we'll be reading the first book within it's series! Now available in paperback--the first installment of a riotous and weird new series introducing three intrepid kids who must foil a madman's plan to unleash an army of stilt-walking, laser-beaming, thoroughly angry whales upon the world. With humor, adventure & some very intelligent characters, we can't wait to dig into this quirky little book! Stay tuned for upcoming author event information!

October's reading selection is Radiant Darkness by Emily Whitman! Persephone lives in the most gorgeous place in the world. But her mother's a goddess, as overprotective as she is powerful. Paradise has become a trap. Just when Persephone feels there's no chance of escaping the life that's been planned for her, a mysterious stranger arrives. A stranger who promises something more—something dangerous and exciting—something that spurs Persephone to make a daring choice. A choice that could destroy all she's come to love, even the earth itself. In a land where a singing river can make you forget your very name, Persephone is forced to discover who—and what—she really is.

For the month of November, we will be reading George's Secret Key To The Universe by Lucy & Stephen Hawking! Stephen Hawking, author of the multi-million copy bestselling A Brief History of Time, and his daughter Lucy explain the universe to readers of all ages. George's parents, who have always been wary of technology, warn him about their new neighbors: Eric is a scientist and his daughter, Annie, seems to be following in his footsteps. But when George befriends them and Cosmos, their super-computer, he finds himself on a wildly fun adventure, while learning about physics, time, and the universe. With Cosmos's help, he can travel to other planets and a black hole. But what would happen if the wrong people got their hands on Cosmos? George, Annie, and Eric aren't about to find out, and what ensues is a funny adventure that clearly explains the mysteries of science.

To finish out 2009, our December reading selection is Roar by Emma Clayton! Mika and Ellie live in a future behind a wall: Solid concrete topped with high-voltage razor wire and guarded by a battalion of Ghengis Borgs, it was built to keep out the animals, because animals carry the plague. At least that's what Ellie, who was kidnapped as a child, has always been taught. But when she comes to suspect the truth behind her captivity, she's ready to risk exposure to the elements and answer the call of the wild. Listen. Can you hear it? She's strapping on her headset, jump starting her Pod Fighter, and--with her capuchin monkey at her back--she's breaking out! With a refreshing blend of adventure & suspense akin to that within The Hunger Games & Artemis Fowl, this is the new series readers have been waiting for!

In January, 2010 we will be devouring the bestselling phenomenon The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins! Katnis is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used to be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place. So begins the shocking tale within this riveting new series!
Catching Fire, Book 2 in this bestselling series will be out in September!

See you at the next meeting, mates!

A Book Busters Welcome!

Welcome to the latest & greatest blog for my fabulous group of book busting readers! As Book Busters chief creator, I myself have been in the childrens book industry for a little over 11 years now & am THRILLED to have created such a lively & entertaining environment for this group of phenomenal kids! What this book group does is simple! We meet up every 2nd Tuesday night of each month at my store, Books Inc. Palo Alto, to talk about one of the most important things within each of our daily lives; reading! We LOVE to read & everything that takes place within our group meetings is a living testimony to that passion! On top of free books, handmade treats and special raffle prizes at each meeting, we talk about WHAT we're reading, WHY we loved reading it & what we HOPE to read in the future! Not to mention, we will soon be hosting special guest authors appearances at select meetings this coming year too! Yes, I DID say author appearances!

So stay tuned readers, this party is just getting started!

If you want to join my fellow readers & I as we smash our way through the best & brightest of middle reader authors, please shoot me an email at cross@booksinc.net
